Learning to see the E Major Scale on the entire guitar fretboard will serve you very well! 

Practise it Per String, learn the fingerings for the CAGED system in E, and the 3NPS and 4NPS patterns.

You will you will learn all about Modes, memorise the shapes and inversions of Closed and Wide Triads, you'll learn all of the Seventh Chords, Sus Chords, Arpeggios and Scale Patterns.  

Also use backing tracks to jam on and master this scale.
